Getting Around in Florence

Florence is a wonderfully walkable city, with most of its main attractions, hotels, restaurants, and shops located within the historic center. This area is bounded by iconic landmarks: Santa Maria Novella to the west, Santa Croce to the east, San Marco to the north, and Santo Spirito just south of the Arno River. You can easily explore these sights on foot, as the entire area can be covered in about 25 minutes in any direction.

Car Rental

If you’re planning to venture beyond Florence and explore Tuscany’s scenic countryside, renting a car might be a good option. Here are a few car rental comparison websites to help you find the best deal:

Please note that Florence’s historic center falls within the ZTL (Zona a Traffico Limitato), a restricted traffic area monitored by video cameras. If you plan to drive into the ZTL, inform your hotel upon arrival so they can register your vehicle’s license plate with the city authorities. Alternatively, you can park outside the ZTL and use public transportation, a taxi, or walk to your destination.
